Meg Caldwell, executive director of the Center for Ocean Solutions, introduces a talk by BOEMRE Director Michael Bromwich to Stanford Students assembled in the Huang Engineering Building on April 6, 2011. Meg is familiar with the work of BOEMRE from her testimony before Congress after the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill and from her years as chair of the California Coastal Commission when she interacted with BOEMRE's predecessor, the Minerals Management Service. Director Bromwich joined the agency after the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico at the urging of the Obama Administration who directed him to undertake reforms and reorganization of the agency. As part of this new direction, Director Bromwich has been on a recruitment tour of the country reaching out to students in the sciences and law, and encouraging them to be part of public service by participating the changes happening at the agency charged with offshore licensing of oil and gas, among other functions. Before joining BOEMRE, Mr. Bromwich was as attorney with a practice that specialized in internal investigation, among other areas. Previously, he was an Inspector General at the Department of Justice. Click here to watch.
