Affiliated Researchers

Kevin Arrigo is a member of the Center for Ocean Solutions’ Fellowship & Curriculum Committee.  He is a Professor of Environmental Earth System Science at Stanford University, as well as current Director of Stanford’s Graduate Program in Earth, Energy and Environmental Sciences.

Jim Barry serves as a member of the Fellowship & Curriculum Committee at the Center for Ocean Solutions.  He is a benthic ecologist at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) studying several aspects of the biology and ecology of marine organisms and communities.

Barbara A. Block was among the team that developed the original proposal to create the Center for Ocean Solutions.  She is a professor and researcher at Stanford's Hopkins Marine Station.

Alexandria is working with other researchers to shape the COS Land-Sea Initiative. She is an associate professor in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University.

Peter Brewer is an ocean chemist and Senior Scientist at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI).

Francisco Chavez serves as a member of the Center for Ocean Solutions’ Fellowship & Curriculum Committee. A Senior Scientist at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI), he is a biological oceanographer with interests in how climate change and variability regulate ocean ecosystems on local and basic scales.

Mark W. Denny is a member of the Center for Ocean Solutions Fellowship & Curriculum Committee. He is also the John B. Jean DeNault Professor in Marine Sciences at Hopkins Marine Station. 

Robert Dunbar is a member of the Center for Ocean Solutions Management Committee.  He is the William M. Keck Professor of Earth Sciences at Stanford University, and the Victoria P. and Roger W. Sant Director of the Earth Systems Program, the largest undergraduate and co-terminal masters program in the School of Earth Sciences.

At the Center for Ocean Solutions, Dr. Ben Halpern is involved in programs focusing on marine spatial planning.  Halpern focuses his research at the interface between marine ecology and conservation biology.

Ove Hoegh-Guldberg is an active collaborator with the Center for Ocean Solutions, including acting as spokesman on coral reefs and climate change during the climate treaty negotiations in Copenhagen, coordinating a Forum for Pacific environmental leaders as part of the Center’s Training and Outreach program, and playing an active role in the formation of the Climate Change Initiative and Pacific Ocean crosscutting project.
