Communicating Climate Change: Meeting the Challenges of Effective Public Engagement

On March 7th, the Center for Ocean Solutions piloted the training workshop Communicating Climate Change: Meeting the challenges of effective public engagement. It was held at the South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR) for all NERR Coastal Training Program coordinators. The training was co-lead by Adina Abeles, COS Director of Education and Training and Dr. Susanne Moser, Woods Institute Social Science Research Fellow, and developed in partnership with NOAA Coastal Services Center, San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission and the San Francisco and Tijuanna NERRs. The training provided attendees with insights from social science, basics in communication strategies and opportunities to practice newly learned techniques that will assist local communities in engaging in climate change adaptation discussions. The vision of the collaborating partners is to conduct localized trainings across the country in climate change communications to enhance local capacity to adapt to climate change.
